Philip M. Brandt papers, 1931-1957.

The Philip M. Brandt Papers included correspondence received and sent by Brandt during the period 1954-1957; a typescript of excerpts from the Oregon Grange Bulletin for 1935-1936; and a 1931 memorandum concerning the proposed J.C. Penney Foundation for Dairy Research. The correspondence consists predominantly of letters received and copies of letters sent to Ethel Mott of Washington, D.C., the widow of Representative James W. Mott, pertaining primarily to Oregon politics, especially the Republican Party. Correspondence with Ray G. Johnson concerning Brandt's health is also included. Excerpts from the Oregon Grange Bulletin include editorials and news items pertaining to a ballot initiative regarding compulsory military training at Oregon's higher education institutions.

Dairy husbandry professor P.M. Brandt served on the Oregon State College faculty as head of the Dairy Husbandry Department from 1917 until his retirement in 1957. He was born in Missouri and received his B.S. and A.M. degrees in agriculture from the University of Missouri in 1910 and 1913.
